We are all facing many challenges as the pandemic has been very hard on all of us. Recently we have seen a rise in students and staff dealing with quarantine and challenges from COVID-19. This is starting to impact our community more and more every day. Today is a grim day in our state as the Illinois Department of Public Health announced 10,000 deaths and over 4000 people in Illinois are in the hospital. These are hard numbers to fathom. I know there are many opinions about the plague but please think of others as you make choices.
We have worked so hard to keep our school open and need the continued support of the community to stay open as safely as possible. PLEASE keep students home if they are ill or a member of the household is ill. PLEASE avoid crowds and gatherings unless they are necessary. If it is not a needed event or activity please make the choice to avoid it to help keep our school open. PLEASE WEAR A MASK! At the least it will help limit the spread. We do not want to return to remote learning but will if things become unsafe. We must continue to wait this plague out and be as safe as we possibly can.
We have been very lucky to not have had to quarantine large groups of students over the last few weeks as we have had some very close calls. I cannot thank everyone enough for working together to give our students the best opportunities we possibly can. We do not have a long period of time until Christmas break and we hope by working together we can make it safely to the end of the semester. As always we are here to help if we can. Great job by our newest 2 members of the 100 club! These young ladies have worked so hard to count until 100! We are so proud of them, keep up the great work!
We just got word that Heather Godsil made ILMEA All-District Band and Chorus both this year. Not only did she make the chorus but was the top scorer for the all of the junior high soprano auditions as well. This is such a great accomplishment! We are so proud of Heather!
Tomorrow 11/2/20 is a scheduled remote learning day as our school is still undergoing an ultra deep cleaning. School is closed Tuesday 11/3/20 as the State of Illinois has closed all schools for Election Day. We appreciate everyone hanging in there with us as we continue to battle the COVID-19 plague.

Tomorrow Friday October 30th is our Halloween celebration. Students in grades k-5 should bring costumes to school and will get dressed here for parties. Students 6-12 can dress up for school but costumes need to be school appropriate. We want everyone to have a nice time celebrating this fun holiday! The Pre-5 parade will take place at 1:15. Community members are welcome to watch from the school green in front of GHS. Please do not come if you have COVID-19 symptoms or have COVID-19. Please use good social distancing as well. Happy Halloween to everyone in Bulldog Country!
Some important school updates-
Thursday, November 5th all Pre-K students will start daily attendance. PK students will come to class everyday. We will have Pre-K as safe as possible for our students everyday. We have some important information and updates to share with families and the community. We are switching a few things around and working to keep things going as safe as possible. We are now planning out the remaining 7 weeks of the semester until Christmas Break.
This weekend we are doing an ultra cleaning of the campus and the building will be closed until 11/4/20. Students will have a remote learning day on 11/220 and school is closed for election day 11/3/20. Important dates are as follows:
11/2/20-Remote learning day, the building will be closed for a deep clean
11/3/20-No School- State of Illinois has closed schools for Election Day
11/6/20-11:30 Dismissal- teachers institute
11/11/20- Veterans Day Program 10:15 at the school flag pole-community is welcome
11/23, 11/24- Parent teacher conference no student attendance 11/23 remote learning

Greenview CUSD #200 has our 1st known case of COVID-19 in our school district. The individual that tested positive has not been on campus or positive while around students or staff. Because of health regulations we cannot share any more specific information on the individual or this specific situation.
The health department is conducting contact tracing, but advises that there has been no contact at school for several days preceding the positive test. If you receive no contact from the health department there is no reason to be concerned about close contact with the positive case.
School will remain open for students as planned; we will adjust if there is any heightened risk to students, staff or our community. If you have questions or concerns about what is going on around our school district please do not hesitate to reach out to myself or other staff members. We will continue to work hard to provide the students with a clean and vibrant campus to learn and grow. Thank you all for such great support and please stay well!

A few Sunday Updates:
PLEASE remember to keep students home if anyone in the family has COVID-19 symptoms or is waiting for COVID-19 testing results. We need to continue to follow the protocols to keep everyone as safe as possible and keep the school in boundaries of what we can and can’t do given to us by the State of Illinois.
Friday at 1:15 is the annual Greenview Elementary Halloween Parade! Families are welcome to gather in the school green in front of GHS and the students will march down the bus lane and down Palmer Street. PLEASE do not attend if you have COVID symptoms. We ask all who come to maintain social distancing. The kids are very excited for this great school tradition.
School is closed on Tuesday November 3rd for Election Day. The State of Illinois passed a rule schools must close this year. Please plan accordingly.

We continue to do a pretty nice job of addressing COVID-19 issues as a school and community. As the weather changes and people feel unwell there are some things to keep in mind as we want to keep school open as long as we can:
-If your student does not feel well please do not send in the child. We hope everyone is taking caution when making these choices. Use your best judgement but as a school we understand if students are ill. We would like to keep the community health as good as possible as long as we can.
-If a member of the household is under quarantine or sick all family members should stay home from school. We know this can be challenging but we must follow the rules best we can to avoid the spread of COVID-19.
-Please remind students to wash hands, wear a mask and social distance the best they can. It’s hard but we need to work as best we can to eliminate ways COVID-19 spreads that we can control.
We thank everyone for working together to keep the school open and as safe as we can make it. Today was the 41st day and we hope we can continue safely as long as we can. If we can help in any way please let us know.

Help spread the news! October 21st from 8:00-Noon Greenview CUSD #200 and Petersburg Pharmacy will be holding a community flu shot clinic at the school. Community members need to call and schedule an appointment ahead of time. Insurance can be billed so the shot will be no cost. If you want to pay directly the cost is $35. There is paperwork that will need to be filled out ahead of time for anyone getting a shot that can be picked up at school. Please call 217 968 2295 to schedule your appointment. This is open to all community members but you must schedule ahead of time.
